What is Computer ?

Introduction

Computer is such a machine that after completing the journey of decades, it is available today in its form, which is compared with the creation of the internal body and it would be an exaggeration to say that its development was only as an alternative to human resource.

What is the Computer?

Computer is an electronic system that generates information by processing data or facts under the control of a set of instructions (program). The computer has the ability to execute the program by accepting the data. It is capable of performing mathematical and logical operations on the data. A computer has an input device to accept data. Processing work is done in the gym device, it is called Central Processing Unit. This is the 'brain of computer'.

Types of computers

Computers are of different types on the basis of their function, purpose or size and power. In fact, it is difficult to classify them directly, that is why we classify them on the following three basis -

1) Digital computer :- A digital computer is a computer that calculates numbers. The visitor converts computer data and programs into 0's and 1's and takes them in electronic form. Most of the computers fall under the category of digital computers.

2) Analog Computer :- A computer that represents data by measurable quantities, as voltages or, formerly, the rotation of gears, so on unravel a drag , instead of by expressing the info as numbers.

3) Hybrid Computer :- Hybrid means to be in many qualities - religion. Those computers which have the properties of both analog computer and digital computer are called hybrid computer.

Types of computer Based on Purpose

We can set up a computer for two purposes, General and Special. Thus, computers are of following two types on the basis of their purpose:

1) General purpose Computers
2) Specific purpose Computers

1) General Purpose Computer:- These are computers that have the ability to do many types of work, but these tasks are common, like- words, writing letters and documents in the process, printing documents, creating databases etc. Their C.P.U. Capacity is limited and cost is low.

2) Special Purpose Computers:- These are computers that are designed for a specific task. Their CPU  capacity is commensurate with the task for which they are designed.  For example, a computer installed in a studio (up) for music editing would be a specific purpose computer. Apart from this, special purpose computers are also useful in the following areas.

-Space - Science and Astronomy
- Control of missiles in combat
- Quick in physics and chemistry
- traffic control
-Agriculture Science
-Film - Picture Film - Editing in the Industry
-Meteorology
-Satellite Operations
-Treatment
- oceanography
- Engineering

Types of computers Based on Size

1) Micro Computer: - A revolutionary invention was made in the year 1970 in the field of technology. It was the invention of the microprocessor, using which it was possible to make cheap computer systems. These computers can be kept on a desk or even in a briefcase. These small computers are called microcomputers.
Microcomputers are cheap in price and small in size

2) Workstations:- Workstations, despite being similar in size to microcomputers, are more powerful and are specially used for complex tasks. These types of computers often keep the characteristics of microcomputers and are operated by only one user at a time like microcomputers. Their functionality is similar to mini computers. They are mainly used by scientists, engineers and other professionals.
These are more expensive than microcomputers

3) Mini Computer:- These computers are medium sized computers. They are more functional than microcomputers. Minicomputers cost more than microcomputers and cannot be purchased individually. These are used by small or medium scale companies. More than one person can work on this computer. Mini computer has more than one CPU . Their memory and speed are more than micro computer and less than mainframe computer.

A medium scale company can use mini computer for the following tasks:

(1) Calculation of salary of employees and preparation of payroll

(2) Maintenance of financial accounts

(3)Cost analysis

(4) Sales Analysis

(5) Production - Planning

Other uses of mini computers are operation of reservation system for passengers in traffic and banking functions in banks. First Mini computer PDP-8 was the size of a refrigerator, priced at $18,000, and was purchased by D.E.C. (DEC - Digital Equipment Corporation) was prepared in the year 1965.
